Taian, February 17 — The Agricultural Equipment Intelligentization Engineering Technology Research Center has been established at Shandong Agricultural University in Taian City.
In recent years, in response to the growing demands of large-scale and facility-based agriculture, there is an urgent need to intensify research on intelligent and automated agricultural machinery technologies and equipment, driven by information technology. The Agricultural Equipment Intelligence Engineering Technology Research Center represents another multidisciplinary integration platform established by the university, following the founding of the Agricultural Big Data Center.
The primary mission of the Research Center for Intelligent Agricultural Equipment Engineering is to align with global trends in intelligent agricultural machinery and the needs of China’s modern agricultural development. With the goal of advancing the mechanization, automation, and intelligence of agricultural equipment, as well as standardizing and digitizing agricultural production, the center focuses on sensor technologies, agricultural information monitoring, and smart agricultural machinery. It conducts research on key technologies required for agricultural production intelligence—such as information acquisition, big‑data integration, intelligent agricultural equipment, and agricultural robotics—and develops high‑tech, cost‑effective, user‑friendly intelligent systems and equipment tailored to China’s agricultural context, thereby enhancing the level of smart agriculture implementation. The main research areas encompass four major domains: agricultural sensor research and development; agricultural information sensing and processing technologies; research and development of intelligent agricultural machinery; and integrated innovation in smart agriculture systems.
To promote the center’s sustainable development, Shandong Agricultural University recently invested 1.5 million yuan to establish the “Bohai Granary (Saline–Alkali Wasteland) Intelligent Facility Agriculture and Agricultural Machinery Integration System” project, leveraging the Bohai Granary Science and Technology Demonstration Project and an agricultural big-data platform. In the medium term, the university will allocate 1 million yuan to select a series of innovative pilot projects for agricultural machinery R&D, aligning with Shandong Province’s needs for agricultural mechanization and capitalizing on the university’s strengths in agricultural equipment design, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of its agricultural mechanization R&D initiatives.
